Lithological Description: | Sandstone, greenish grey, buff-weathered, argillaceous, fine- and very fine-grained; part poorly bedded, part current ripple-laminated and cross-bedded; mean cross-bed palaeocurrent flow direction toward the east (Chisholm 1990, fig.8).
Definition of Lower Boundary: | The base of the Bole Hill Sandstone overlies a regionally widespread mudstone containing the non-marine 'Daubhill fauna'. Locally the base is erosive, cutting through this mudstone into the underlying sandstones of the Wingfield Flags (Chisholm 1990, fig.9).
Definition of Upper Boundary: | The top of the Bole Hill Sandstone is overlain by the Kilburn Coal (Chisholm 1990, fig.9).
Thickness: | To 40m (Chisholm 1990, fig.9)
Geographical Limits: | Sandstone is mappable at outcrop from [SK 368 663] to [SK 382 563]. Main part of sandstone is an east-west oriented palaeochannel with outcrop extending from [SK 368 663] at the northern margin of the channel to [SK 379 590] at the southern margin of the channel.
