Lithological Description: Laminated fossiliferous siltstones, mudstones and shales, no sediment coarser than siltstone, bioturbation common in fine-grained sediment. Fossils include rugose corals, brachiopods, bivalves, trilobites and pelmatozoans.
Definition of Lower Boundary: Conformable: at grey shales overlying highest Reservoir Formation, sandy siltstone.
Definition of Upper Boundary: Conformable: red shales immediately underlying lowest Cock Rig Formation, medium-grained sandstones.
Thickness: 390m in North Esk Inlier
Geographical Limits: Pentland Hills, Midland Valley.
