Lithological Description: |
Predominantly of mudstone and siltstone with beds of dolomite and limestone; sandstone is subordinate to the argillaceous rocks: overall pattern of sedimentation is cyclic with marine influence (marine bands common). |
Definition of Lower Boundary: |
The conformable base of the Formation lies in a transitional sequence from the Sandy Craig Formation, the boundary being drawn at the base of the West Braes Marine Band. The boundary was originally drawn at a slightly lower level in the type section; the change was made by Browne (1986, fig.2). |
Definition of Upper Boundary: |
The upper boundary is at the base of the Hurlet Limestone (base of Lower Limestone Formation). |
Thickness: |
Maximum thickness is about 220m in East Fife |

Central and East Fife. |
