Lithological Description: Acid and basic lavas and associated pyroclastic rocks including basalts, andesites, trachytes, rhyolites, acid and basic tuffs and intercalated conglomerates, sandstones and minor constituent sediments.
Definition of Lower Boundary: The base of the volcanic rocks overstepping from the Swanshaw Sandstone Formation to the Greywacke Conglomerate Formation.
Definition of Upper Boundary: The unconformity with the Inverclyde Group (Carboniferous).
Thickness: About 1800 m thick.
Geographical Limits: The Pentland Hills in east-cental Scotland.
