BGS TextViewer

TextViewer is a new and exciting resource enabling selected BGS memoirs and other important publications to be read online and linked to a map.

Publications include the more recent 1:50,000 sheet memoirs, (England and Wales, Scotland) major economic memoirs such as Dines's Metalliferous mining regions of SW England and Dunham's Northern Pennine orefield, and other key series such as the 1:25,000 classical areas of British geology, the important subsurface memoirs and the British regional guides and Offshore reports.

A key feature is that areas with a quoted grid reference are located on a map so that users can search geographically for places of interest.

Notes

The text in TextViewer is extracted from scanned and OCRed copies of the publications and while every effort is taken to correct errors it is possible that some might remain. It is recommended that the original scans are consulted on the BGS Publications viewer when important or critical work is being undertaken.

The viewer and map have been tested in Chrome, Firefox, Edge, Brave and Vivaldi browsers. Internet Explorer is not currently supported.
