Author statement Original geological survey at 1:63 360 scale by H.W. Bristow, published on Old Series sheets 15, 18 and 19, respectively in 1856, 1850 and 1845, and by W.T. Aveline, published on Old Series Sheet 14 in 1857. A revised edition of Sheet 19, undertaken by J.H. Blake, W.A.E. Ussher and H.B. Woodward between 1867 and 1871 was published in 1875. A third edition of Sheet 19 incorporating work by A.J. Jukes-Browne was published in 1899. A revision mainly of the Cretaceous strata at 1:10 560 scale was carried out by A.J. Jukes-Browne between 1889 and 1900, by F.J. Bennett in 1894-1898 and C. Reid in 1900. Ground bordering the Mere Fault between Wincanton and East Knoyle surveyed at 1:10 560 scale by H.B. Mottram between 1951 and 1954; country bordering the Warminster Fault surveyed by M.R. House in 1954-1956. 1:63 360 scale map published in 1969; reprinted at 1:50 000 scale in 1972. Resurveyed at 1:10 000 scale by C.R. Bristow, E.C. Freshney, R.K. Westhead, C.M. Barton and R.T. Taylor between 1988 and 1994. Seismic interpretation by D.J. Evans and G.A. Kirby. R.W. Gallois, P.M. Allen, B.J. Williams and I.R. Basham, Regional Geologists.
