Author statement Original geological survey on the one-inch scale by H.W. Bristow, published in 1855 on Old Series Sheets 16 & 17. Resurveyed on the six-inch scale by C. Reid (Tertiary) and A. Strahan (Secondary) and published with Drift in 1896 on the one-inch scale. Sir Arch. Geikie, D.Sc., LL.D., F.R.S., Director-General. Colour-printed in 1904. NW area, Creechbarrow and notes revised by W.J. Arkell, 1937-8. Chaldon Purbeck inlier by A.H. Taitt, 1937. 
Published statement New edition published 1949. Reconstituted from the one-inch scale without geological revision and reprinted on to 7th Series one inch base at 1:50 000 scale in 1974. Print code: 4000/74.
