Author statement Original geological survey on the one-inch scale by H.W. Bristow. Published on the Old Series sheets 9, 10 and 11 in 1856 to 1864. Isle of Wight resurveyed on the six-inch scale by C. Reid and A. Strahan in 1886 to 1887. Published on the one-inch New Series Sheet 331 in 1893. Mainland resurveyed on the 1:10 000 scale by F.G. Berry, R.D. Lake, S.J. Mathers and R.J. Wyatt in 1982 to 1984. W.A. Read, Regional Geologist. This survey was funded in part by the Department of the Environment. Compiled on the 1:50 000 scale by R.W. Gallois and C.L. Kelly in 1991.
