Lithological Description: Sand, sand gravel, and gravel, locally clayey. Gravel component is predominantly subangular flint with subordinate debris of chert, polished quartz grains, and larger fragments of pebbly ferruginous sandstone derived from Lower Cretaceous sequences to the north.
Definition of Lower Boundary: Unconformably overlies Lower Cretaceous bedrock.
Definition of Upper Boundary: Ground surface.
Thickness: Generally up to 4m, but locally up to 10m.
Geographical Limits: Valley of River Arun, Haslemere, Horsham, Chichester district, Sussex.
