Lithological Description: River terrace gravels, sands and associated organic sediments. The Arun has seven river terrace aggradations above the alluvium (e.g. Sheet 301 Haslemere, BGS, 1981). Pleistocene to Holocene (MIS pre-13 - 1).
Definition of Lower Boundary: The fluvial deposits rest unconformably on Palaeogene strata.
Definition of Upper Boundary: At surface or overlain by younger deposits including alluvium and head.
Thickness: Average 4 m, although may reach 8 to 10 m locally.
Geographical Limits: Valley of the Arun River, in the Haslesmere, Horsham, and Chichester districts, Sussex.
