Lithological Description: |
River terrace gravels, sands and associated organic sediments. The Arun has seven river terrace aggradations above the alluvium (e.g. Sheet 301 Haslemere, BGS, 1981). Pleistocene to Holocene (MIS pre-13 - 1). |
Definition of Lower Boundary: |
The fluvial deposits rest unconformably on Palaeogene strata. |
Definition of Upper Boundary: |
At surface or overlain by younger deposits including alluvium and head. |
Thickness: |
Average 4 m, although may reach 8 to 10 m locally. |
Geographical Limits: |
Valley of the Arun River, in the Haslesmere, Horsham, and Chichester districts, Sussex. |
