Lithological Description: Coarse gravel, hard and with a calcite cement,with abundant pebbles and cobbles of more than 55% Carboniferous limestone, 8 - 29% Carboniferous sandstone and minor proportions of quartzite and quartz. Interbedded with cemented quartzose sand.
Definition of Lower Boundary: Pronounced irregular unconformity on underlying, mainly Triassic bedrock.
Definition of Upper Boundary: Locally overlain by till (Quaternary).
Thickness: Variable, locally up to 2.8m
Geographical Limits: Sporadic outcrops extend from a location 750m due west of Spitalhill, northwards to 800m SW of Sandybrook Hall (SK 173 456 to SK 175 476).
