Lithological Description: Redbed sequence; mudstone-dominated at base but becoming more arenaceous towards top. Impersistent conglomerates at some levels.
Definition of Lower Boundary: Taken at the junction between the highest sandstone package in the Keresley Member (Corley Sandstone) and the overlying mudstone unit.
Definition of Upper Boundary: Defined at the incoming of mudstones of the essentially argillaceous Tile Hill Mudstone Formation.
Thickness: c. 140 m.
Geographical Limits: Warwickshire Coalfield (Sheet 169). Also likely to extend in the subcrop across the southern part of the Coalfield (Sheet 184).
Parent Unit: Salop Formation (SAL)

Type Area  Warwickshire Coalfield; outcrops centred on the village of Allesley and extending from the Western Boundary Fault to the western suburbs of Coventry (poor exposure).
