Lithological Description: Pelite and semipelite, phyllitic and schistose, rarely slaty, commonly biotite-rich. Minor beds of psammite and quartzite. Thicker beds of gritty psammite.
Definition of Lower Boundary: Sheared-out at western limit of Portsoy Shear-zone.
Definition of Upper Boundary: Faulted-out, sheared-out or cut by mafic and ultramafic major intrusions and pods at eastern limit of the Portsoy Shear-zone.
Thickness: Approximately 1250m maximum (based on maximum outcrop width and average dip).
Geographical Limits: Cachnamuin Stripe, Bridgend (85E) to Bogforth, Cairnborrow (86W).
