Lithological Description: Pebbly volcaniclastic sandstone with intercalations of bedded fine- to coarse-grained volcaniclastic sandstone.
Definition of Lower Boundary: Base (probably conformable) of lowest of a series of thick units (2-25m) of pebbly sandstone, resting on bedded sandstone (undivided) of the Deepdale Sandstone Formation.
Definition of Upper Boundary: Overlain either by ignimbrite (St Sunday Crag Member) or breccia (Blake Brow Member).
Thickness: 200m (maximum)
Geographical Limits: St Sunday Crag, Thornhow End, Deepdale, northeast Lake District (between Grasmere and Patterdale).
Parent Unit: Deepdale Sandstone Formation (DPD)
