Lithological Description: Reddish brown mudstone, sandy mudstone and clayey fine-grained sandstone, weathering to clay, sandy clay, and clayey sandstone. Contains a mappable bed of fine-grained sandstone near Columbjohn (eg SX 963 995).
Definition of Lower Boundary: Base taken at upward change from coarse-grained pebbly sandstone to clayey sandstone and mudstone at type locality.
Definition of Upper Boundary: Overlain by sandstone of main part of Dawlish Sandstone.
Thickness: 24.4m in a borehole [SX 9458 9788] at Huxham Barton; 50m at Bussel's Farm [SX 9529 9873], 1km north-east of Huxham; more than 69m in the Columbjohn Borehole [SX 9584 9964], a further 1km north-east.
Geographical Limits: Outcrop forms low-lying ground, much mantled by superficial deposits, between Stoke Canon [SX 940 980], Columbjohn [SX 960 999], and Francis Court Farm [SX 980 995].
