Lithological Description: Medium to high-k, continental margin calc-alkaline basalt-andesite-rhyolite volcanic association of lavas, sills, pyroclastic and reworked pyroclastic deposits. NOTE: See definitions of component formations and members.
Definition of Lower Boundary: Unconformably overlies the Skiddaw Group; the base is taken at this unconformity where there is a profound change from a marine mudrock sequence to a volcanic one.
Definition of Upper Boundary: Unconformably overlain by Windermere Supergroup.
Thickness: Variable, but probably up to 6000m.
Geographical Limits: Central Lake District, also in Cross Fell Inlier and possibly Teesdale Inlier.
