Lithological Description: |
A coarse-grained, and pebbly, feldspathic sandstone, thickly-bedded, wavy-bedded, planar cross-bedded or massive, reddened, with subordinate beds of siltstone. Pebbles of quartz and mudstone are noted. |
Definition of Lower Boundary: |
The base of a prominent, feature-forming sandstone unit approximately 180 m above the base of the sandstones of the Pendle Grit Member. |
Definition of Upper Boundary: |
The base of a sandstone-dominated unit of the Pendle Grit Member above the highest prominent pebbly sandstone unit within a pebbly-sandstone dominated sequence of the Copster Green Sandstone. |
Thickness: |
135 m thick at Dinckley [SD 6884 3564], and 100 m thick at Clayton-le-Dale [SD 6726 3322]. |
Geographical Limits: |
The Copster Green area [SD63], and the extreme south-eastern part of Garstang 50k sheet. |
