Lithological Description: Reddish brown sandstone, mostly fine-grained and with some clay and silt; locally with breccia beds. Weathers to sand near surface.
Definition of Lower Boundary: Rests unconformably on Knowle Sandstone.
Definition of Upper Boundary: Overlain by Crediton Breccia; may pass laterally in places into Crediton Breccia.
Thickness: Up to 80m in Crediton area.
Geographical Limits: First mapped in Creedy Bridge area [SS 847 012]; extends westwards through and north of Crediton to the Knowle area. Not recognised in the Okehampton district (Edmonds and others, 1968).
