Lithological Description: Pale quartzites, mostly pure; thickly bedded with trough cross-bedding and large channel fills, to flaggy and more planar bedded.
Definition of Lower Boundary: Base of thick-bedded quartzites (not seen in any of the exposures).
Definition of Upper Boundary: At top of flaggy quartzites where overlain by flaggy micaceous psammites and semipelites of the Findlater Flag Formation.
Thickness: c. 2,400m on coast, c. 1,250m seen inland
Geographical Limits: 1) Coast between Buckie and Cullen, inland to Hill of Maud (Sheets 95 and 96). 2) Ben Aigan, Craigellachie to Cairnty (Sheet 85E). 3) Core of Ardonald Anticline, from Jock's Hill to Hill of Shenwall (Sheet 85E).
