Lithological Description: Notably striped, semipelites and psammites, laminated and thinly banded, slaty to schistose. Psammites more quartzose and abundant near the base of the formation. Semipelites dominate towards the top.
Definition of Lower Boundary: Rapid transition from quartzite of the underlying Kymah Quartzite Formation to striped semipelite - psammite unit.
Definition of Upper Boundary: Upper limit of semipelite at base of graphitic pelite of the Glenbuchat Graphitic Schist Formation.
Thickness: 285 - 1200m
Geographical Limits: c. 1km south of Cook's Cairn in the Blackwater Forest, and from the Allt na Craoibhe - Caorainn south to the Head of Glen Buchat, the Peat Hill, and SSE to Glen Conrie and Upper Glenfenzie (Sheet 75E). Also around summit of Carn Oighreag, on Hill of Allargue. On Sheet 75W stretches SSE from Reidh Dorch, across the Muckle Fergie Burn to Cairn Culchavie (Upper Donside) and Cairn Sawvie, where it is cut by the Glen Gairn Granite.
