Lithological Description: Macroporphyritic shoshonite lavas, aphyric and microporphyritic olivine basalt and basaltic andesite lavas, tuffs and volcaniclastic sedimentary rocks.
Definition of Lower Boundary: The base of the lowest lava or tuff overlying the Whitehouse Conglomerate Formation or the Gourdon Sandstone Formation.
Definition of Upper Boundary: The top of the lava or tuff underlying the Catterline Conglomerate Formation.
Thickness: Up to 270 m thick.
Geographical Limits: Stonehaven to Gourdon, and in the north-west limb of the Strathmore Syncline between Stonehaven and Dunkeld.
