Lithological Description: A coarse-grained, calcitic meta-limestone, generally sandy and locally containing slate pebbles to which the limestone forms a carbonate matrix, which varies in colour from blue-grey to dark grey.
Definition of Lower Boundary: A conformable contact with psammite and/or pelite of the Margie formation.
Definition of Upper Boundary: A conformable contact with psammite and/or pelite of the Margie formation.
Thickness: 2 m thick.
Geographical Limits: The river Esk and adjacent area within the Highland Boundary Fault system north-west from Edzell, Angus, Scotland.
