Lithological Description: Medium- to coarse-grained, cross-bedded sandstones and substantial, distinctive, flaggy sandstones interbedded with minor siltstones and mudstones, interdigitated with the Ochil Volcanic Formation.
Definition of Lower Boundary: The top of the andesitic lava flows at Tealing House and Newton, near Dundee, the base of which is not generally exposed because it lies at the core of the Sidlaw Anticline.
Definition of Upper Boundary: The top of the highest bed of flaggy sandstone and siltstone which is characteristic of the Dundee Flagstone Formation, and below the Scone Sandstone Formation.
Thickness: Up to 1800 m thick.
Geographical Limits: Dundee-Inverkeilor area on Sheets 48E, 49, 57E (uncertain) and 57W.
Parent Unit: Arbuthnott-Garvock Group (ATGK)
