Lithological Description: Mudstone, homogeneous, medium-grey with common thin (<05cm) fine-grained sandstone layers. Commonly parallel laminated.
Definition of Lower Boundary: Passage down into fissile largely hemipelagic Gyfennie Wood Shales Member of the Nantglyn Flags Formation.
Definition of Upper Boundary: At abrupt onset of thicker (>30cm) fine-grained sandstones, commonly defined also by a lenticular bed of intraformational conglomerate.
Thickness: 0-150m.
Geographical Limits: Around Newtown.
Parent Unit: Bailey Hill Formation (BAI)
