Definition of Lower Boundary: Base rests unconformable upon Dalradian metasedimentary rocks.
Definition of Upper Boundary: Sedimentary transition into Raebeg Sandstone Formation.
Thickness: 250m+
Geographical Limits: The Tomintoul Old Red Sandstone outlier of upper Banffshire - a 50 sq km outlier about 15 by 5km in extent, which is totally separated from other Old Red Sandstone outcrops of the northeast Grampian area.
