Definition of Lower Boundary: Drawn at base of the Marl Slate Formation where it rests conformably on the Basal Permian Sands, the Yellow Sands or the Basal Permian Breccia; all of the Lower Permian.
Definition of Upper Boundary: Drawn at conformable boundary between the Hayton or Hartlepool Anhydrite formations and the limestone and dolomite of the Kirkham Abbey or Concretionary Limestone Formations.
Thickness: Up to approximately 150m
Geographical Limits: Eastern England.
