Lithological Description: Purple and brown, medium- and coarse-grained sandstones, subsidiary purple mudstones and rare pebbly sandstone beds.
Definition of Lower Boundary: Where medium- to coarse-grained sandstones overlie the top of the fine-grained sandstones and siltstones of the Buttergask Flagstone Member.
Definition of Upper Boundary: The base of the lowest siltstone or mudstone of the Cromlix Mudstone Formation.
Thickness: About 750 m thick.
Geographical Limits: The south-east limb of the Strathmore Syncline, in the Stirling to Alloa area.
Parent Unit: Scone Sandstone Formation (SCN)
