Durine Formation

Lithological Description: Light grey fine-grained dolomitic limestones.
Definition of Lower Boundary: Conformably overlies the Croisaphuill Formation.
Definition of Upper Boundary: The top of the formation is tectonically truncated by the Moine Thrust Zone.
Thickness: 80 m thick, although estimated at 200m by some authors.
Geographical Limits: The Durness Group forms a narrow, discontinuous belt, extending along the north-western side of Scotland from the Durness-Eriboll area, through Assynt and Kishorn, to Skye. The Durine Formation does not occur in Assynt or Skye and appears to be limited to the more northern parts of the Durness Group's outcrop.
