Lithological Description: Metamorphosed lavas and pyroclastic rocks. The spilites are intercalated with metasediments, mainly graphitic phyllites, quartzites and cherts.
Definition of Lower Boundary: Drawn at base of meta-spilite of the Dunrossness Spilitic Formation where it rests conformably on pelitic wacke interpreted to belong to the Dunrossness Phyllitic (Formation).
Definition of Upper Boundary: Drawn at unconformable upward passage from meta-spilite of the Dunrossness Spilitic Formation to the Old Red Sandstone.
Thickness: Approximately 1000 m.
Geographical Limits: Shetlands, Scotland.
