Computer Code: EKM Preferred Map Code: EKM
Status Code: Full
Age range: Llandovery Epoch (SL) — Llandovery Epoch (SL)
Lithological Description: Sandstone, typically fine- to medium-grained but ranging from very fine- to coarse-grained. Generally medium- to thick-bedded over thicknesses of tens of metres interspersed with units up to few metres very thin to thin-bedded. Sparse very thick beds of massive sandstone. Interbedded siltstone or silty mudstone generally in thin beds. Sandstone and siltstone typically pale green when fresh with characteristic deep rusty brown weathering reflecting relatively high carbonate content. Distinguished from the Glendearg and Selcoth Formations by relatively high carbonate content and associated weathering character.
Definition of Lower Boundary: Faulted; stratigraphical contact not preserved.
Definition of Upper Boundary: Faulted; no stratigraphical contact preserved.
Thickness: Uncertain, likely to be several thousand metres.
