Finavon Conglomerate Member

Computer Code: FCO Preferred Map Code: notEntered
Status Code: Full
Age range: Early Devonian Epoch (DL) — Early Devonian Epoch (DL)
Lithological Description: Conglomerate.
Definition of Lower Boundary: The Finavon Conglomerate was originally thought to conformably overlie the Melgund Formation (Armstrong and Paterson, 1970, p.14), however, it has since been determined to be a lens-shaped body within the Tannadice Sandstone Member, rendering the Melgund Sandstone Member superfluous.
Definition of Upper Boundary: The Finavon Conglomerate Member forms a conglomeratic lens within the Tannadice Sandstone Member, which (Armstrong and Paterson, 1970, p.14) considered to be the top of a conglomerate body locally marking the base of the Tannadice Sandstone Member.
Thickness: none recorded or not applicable
Geographical Limits: The Forfar Brechin area. At Den of Dun, east-north-east of Brechin, the Finavon Conglomerate lies directly on the highest fine-grained member of the Dundee Flagstone Formation, on Sheets 57W, 57E.
Parent Unit: Scone Sandstone Formation (SCN)
