Lithological Description: Mostly semipelite and pelite with beds of metalimestone, some thick and massive. Minor beds of calc-silicate rock and quartzite.
Definition of Lower Boundary: Base of dark pelites and semipelites overlying paler calcareous, banded phyllitic semipelites and psammites of the Tarnash Phyllite and Limestone Formation. (Base not seen in type section.)
Definition of Upper Boundary: Top of dark pelites and semipelites beneath Durn Hill Quartzite Formation. (Top not seen in type or reference sections.)
Thickness: 700m maximum (based on outcrop width and average dip), >160m on coast at Sandend Bay.
Geographical Limits: Sandend Bay to Mill of Wood Burn, Keith (Sheets 86W, 96W)
