Age range: Early Pleistocene (QPE) — Mid Pleistocene (QPM)
Lithological Description: The formation includes glacigenic deposits interpreted as till, outwash and glacio-marine. Coarse outwash sands and gravels, poorly to well sorted, are interbedded with reddish purple till. Both contain clasts of Carboniferous limestone, Upper Greensand chert, Jurassic limestone, and Cretaceous flint, up to cobble and boulder size, with small quantities of Devonian red quartzite, sandstones and conglomerates. Pennant sandstone and yellow Triassic sandrock.
Definition of Lower Boundary: Rests upon Triassic bedrock.
Definition of Upper Boundary: Mostly at surface. At Kenn, overlain by Cromerian (MIS 15) deposits and by Holocene silts and clays.
Thickness: To c.14m
Geographical Limits: Restricted to Avon and north Somerset; occurrences at Kenn, Court Hill, Nightingale Valley, Failland Ridge, Bathampton Down and Bleadon Hill.
