| Lithological Description: | Typically a subangular conglomerate with locally-derived clasts in a red, sandy mudstone matrix. Buff sandstones interbedded with mudstones constitute a distal facies. | ||
| Definition of Lower Boundary: | An irregular unconformity surface on rocks of Precambrian to Palaeozoic age. | ||
| Definition of Upper Boundary: | Sharply and in places unconformably overlain by sandstones or mudstones of Permian to Triassic age. | ||
| Thickness: | Highly variable, generally 0-15m but can range up to 55m. | ||
| Geographical Limits: | The unit is widely distributed at the base of the Triassic or Permian of the East Midlands, extending from Measham northwards as far as the Chesterfield area. | ||
