Lithological Description: Conglomerate, matrix supported; matrix of grey-brown, dolomitic or calcareous sandstone with rounded to angular grey, green, purple or red clasts of mudstone, sandstone, ironstone, limestone and less common igneous and metamorphic rocks.
Definition of Lower Boundary: Sharp; unconformable on reddened Carboniferous rocks.
Definition of Upper Boundary: Sharp; upward passage into late Permian mudstones (Marl Slate), dolostone or dolomitic siltstone (Cadeby Formation) or sandstone (Lenton Sandstone Formation).
Thickness: Generally less than 2m
Geographical Limits: Eastern and north-east England, patchily distributed (Smith, 1989, fig.3). Associated with aeolian sandstone in Yorkshire.
