Lithological Description: Unbedded or poorly bedded, pale grey or pale yellowish grey bioclastic and peloidal grainstone or biocalcarenite. NOTE: type area is south Cumberland - Furness area.
Definition of Lower Boundary: Point where sharp (this change can extend over 1 or 2m. Rose and Dunham, 1977, p.29, South Cumbria Memoir) upward change occurs from the dark grey bedded packstones of the Dalton Formation to the pale unbedded grainstones of the Park Limestone.
Definition of Upper Boundary: Upward change from massive cream-white to thickly bedded grey pseudobrecciated limestone of overlying Urswick Limestone Formation.
Thickness: 120 to 130m
Geographical Limits: Around Dalton-in-Furness in the west, to near Carnforth in the east.

Reference Section  Barker Scar, Holker Hall, Cark-Cartmel, Cumbria. West facing crag forming the western boundary of Old Park Wood 2.8km west-north-west of Holker Hall: the basal 45m of the formation and the contact with the underlying Dalton Formation are exposed. 
Reference Section  Crown Quarry and Devonshire Quarry: just north of Stainton and south east of Dalton in Furness, exposing 150m+ of limestone, comprising the upper half of the Park Limestone and much of Urswick Limestone (Rose and Dunham, 1977).
