Lithological Description: Mudstone, siltstone and very fine-grained sandstone, finely interlaminated; pinkish red or red-brown, subordinately green.
Definition of Lower Boundary: Gradational and conformable; taken at the top of highest significant sandstone bed of the underlying Tarporley Siltstone Formation.
Definition of Upper Boundary: Gradational; taken at the transition from the laminated beds of the Radcliffe Member into blocky, deformed mudstone of the Gunthorpe Member.
Thickness: 12 to 19 m (16 m in the Cropwell Bridge Borehole, SK63NE/28).
Geographical Limits: Mappable at the surface in south Nottinghamshire and Leicestershire. Upper boundary coincides with a widespread geophysical log marker traceable throughout the East Midlands and northeast England.
