Lithological Description: Sandstone, grey-brown to reddish brown to purple, fine- to medium-grained, lithic, locally micaceous, commonly planar bedded, rare sandy siltstone beds, coarsening north-eastwards from Glenny Burn [NN 5700 0213].
Definition of Lower Boundary: The sharp contact at the top of the Gartartan Conglomerate Member of the Ruchill Flagstone Formation.
Definition of Upper Boundary: North-east of Malling [NN 5625 0065], seen as a diachronous transition to the Malling Conglomerate Member, south of Malling, there is a diachronous transition to the undivided Cromlix siltstone facies.
Thickness: Up to 300 m near Arntamie [NN 565 010].
Geographical Limits: The north-west limb of the Strathmore Syncline, from Shannochill [NS 542 992] to north-east of Lochan Balloch, probably re-appearing in Keltie Water, north-east of Callander.
Parent Unit: Cromlix Mudstone Formation (CXF)
