Lithological Description: Fine- to medium-grained lithic sandstone interbedded with minor amounts of conglomerate and siltstone.
Definition of Lower Boundary: Angular unconformity on meta-igneous and metasedimentary rocks of the Highland Border Complex.
Definition of Upper Boundary: Base of Downie Point Conglomerate Member (Dunnothar Castle Conglomerate Formation), where thickly-bedded or massive conglomerate overlies planar bedded or cross-bedded pebbly sandstone of the Carron Sandstone Formation.
Thickness: Variable, up to maximum of 1800m. Presumed to lap onto basement (Highland Border Complex and possibly Dalradian) and to be overlapped by younger groups.
Geographical Limits: North-eastern Midland Valley, Stonehaven area.
