Definition of Upper Boundary: The Thornhill Sandstone Formation is stratigraphically the highest unit in the district.
Thickness: 200m+ on geophysical evidence
Geographical Limits: Thornhill Basin and Locherben, Dumfriesshire, south-western Scotland (Southern Uplands).
