Lithological Description: The Trimingham Clay Member consists of rhythmically laminated clays and pale grey silts.
Definition of Lower Boundary: The lower boundary of the Trimingham Clay Member is gradational with the Bacton Green Till Member, representing a lithological change from stratified sandy diamicton to laminated silts and clays.
Definition of Upper Boundary: The nature of the upper boundary between the laminated silts and clays (Trimingham Clay Member) and the overlying sandy facies of the Trimingham Sand Member is sharp and irregular.
Thickness: Up to 2.2m have been observed at the stratotype.
Geographical Limits: Coastal cliff sections between Trimingham and Sidestrand, northern Norfolk.

Type Section  The stratotype for the Trimingham Clay Member is characterized within coastal cliff sections to the northwest of Trimingham in north Norfolk. At this locality the Trimingham Clay Member can be seen overlying the Bacton Green Till Member, and is overlain in-turn by the Trimingham Sand Member. Lunkka, 1994.
