Author statement Original geological survey at 1:63 360 scale by H.T. de la Beche and W.T. Aveline. Published as part of Old Series Sheet 41 in 1845 and with amendments in 1857. A small area along the southem edge of the district was resurveyed at the 1:10 560 scale by T.C. Cantrill and H.H. Thomas between 1898 and 1905 and by H.C. Squirrellin 1971. Remaining parts of the district were resurveyed at either 1:10 000 or 1:20 000 scale by J.R. Davies, N.S. Jones, A.B. Leslie, D.I. Schofield, J. Venus, R.A. Waters and D. Wilson between 2003 and 2007 as part of the GeoCymru Project supported by a grant from the Welsh Assembly Govemment. Biostratigraphy by S.G. Molyneux and D.E. White (BGS) and M. Williams (Leicester University). Compiled by J.R. Davies and D.I. Schofield. J.R. Davies, Chief Geologist, Wales.
