Cretaceous rocks surveyed on the six-inch scale prior to 1900 by A.J. Jukes-Browne and F.J. Bennett, and north-eastern corner in 1896-1905 by J.H. Blake and T.I. Pocock (published on Oxford District Sheet in 1908). Resurveyed and remainder completed in 1967-9 by E.G. Poole, B. Kelk, B.C. Coppack, R. J.O. Hamblin and A. Horton; J.R. Earp and G.A.
